February has so many activities to choose for teaching. This short, 29 day month has history, Presidents day, Valentine Day and of course Mardi Gras, which is early this year. So I'll teach about all of this with atlas and almanac. I am a map reader and yes, GPS user. But, if you don't know how to read a map, how is GPS systems helping you? My car has sent me in some interesting directions when I knew of shortcuts, or found other avenues to travel. Almanac is an overlooked book for brief, current facts because everyone is turning to using the internet. And yes, an almanac is on the internet and apps too. But, letting students see books and then transfering that knowledge to online gives a firmer foundation.
