January 14-18

Reminders:

  • Please check agenda nightly to make sure your child is completing all of their homework.
  • Beginning this week there will be 4 spelling homework activities from the spelling menu due each Friday.  Your child should complete 4 activites that use all of their spelling words.
  • Thank you to everyone who has already returned their conference form.  If you have not done so, please do as soon as possible. Thank you.
  • Next Monday, January 21st, is a school holiday.
  • Next week is Conference Week:  January 22-25
  • Please continue to maintain a reasonable bedtime for your child.  We continue to have a lot of "sleepiness" during class.  It can be very difficult to focus on new learning if you are tired.

Important Notes for December

  • Please help us stay focused at school by continuing to encourage a reasonable bedtime at home.  We have had many sleepy students!  It is hard to learn when you are trying to stay awake.  Thanks for your support in this area.
  • Our class holiday party will be Wednesday, December 19th, 12:40-1:20.  We are having a pizza party.  You are welcome to attend.
  • Please look over your child's graded work carefully and discuss it with them.  If you notice that they are having difficulty remembering to put their name on their paper, please emphasize the importance of this.  Thank you for your help with this recurring problem.

Fall_pumpkin

Weeks of 10/22 and 10/29

What are we learning?

Reading:  Traditional literature continued (Fables, Folktales, and Tall Tales) We are reading folktales from all over the world in our guided reading groups.

Writing:  We have written an original fable.  We are creating dioramas to show the characters and setting of our fable.  We are going to begin learning how to write a response to literature.

Math:  We are continuing to focus on multiplying larger numbers using the partial product and regrouping methods.  We will begin dividing by 2 digit numbers.

Science:  Forces and Motion continued.

Reminders and Notes:

  • Please make sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes each night.  Please make sure the reading log is an accurate representation of what they have read before you sign it.
  • It is becoming more and more critical that your child knows his/her multiplication facts.  Long division can be quite difficult without having your facts memorized.  Find a time to practice these on a regular basis.  It doesn't have to be done with flash cards. You can practice anytime!  You can call them out as you ride down the road or wait in line.  Be creative!
