Please mark your calendars for our Poetry Open House on Friday, November 20th! Invitations were sent home Monday, November 9th. Please RSVP by Friday, November 13th. Hope to see you all for poetry and refreshments!

Tree of Wishes - November 10^th - December 9^th
The holidays are a magical time of year.  With your help, we can bring happiness to Bullard children and make sure they have a wonderful holiday!  Beginning November 10^th, we will start taking donations for our annual “Tree of Wishes.”  You or your child can stop by and “catch a snowflake” from the tree in the front lobby.  Each snowflake will be marked with a gift a child has selected, but may otherwise not receive without your help.  Please attach the snowflake to the unwrapped gift and deposit it in the box located in the lobby no later than Wednesday, December 9th.
There will be an adult in the lobby prior to announcements each morning to assist your child in choosing a snowflake.  Please discuss with your child how many snowflakes they are permitted to take.  If you are unable to purchase a particular item, please have your child return the snowflake and select another.

Turkey Bingo
Bring one canned good per person for admission, a dessert to share, and be ready to play B-I-N-G-O in the cafeteria on Monday, November 16!  
Win turkeys and have a great time with friends and family!  Dessert starts at 6:30 p.m., BINGO starts at 7:00 p.m.  Spiritwear will be available – think holiday shopping!  2009/2010 items still available and older items will be deeply discounted. You can also choose a Holiday Tree Snowflake.  There will be a brief PTSA meeting at 6:30.

Just a few reminders...

Great job with the BOOSTERTHON!  I am very proud of the students and their pledges!! GO TEAM!

I wanted to give you an update on academics as I plan for this week.  Hope this will help you at home.

Spelling: Sort 11 words (quiz on Friday the 30th)

Science:  Unit on Force and Motion

SS: Chapter 4 lessons 1 and 2.  Focus on Cabot, Hudson and Cartier.  Students are working on an Explorers book to use as a study guide.

Reading: Story elements.  Focus on plot, characters and setting.

Math: DIvision.  Chapter 10 lessons 4-7

GUMS: Grammar.  Working with verbs pages 47-50

Writing: Poetry.  Focus on similes, metaphors and idioms.

*SS test is scheduled for November 5th and the Science test will be the following week.

*Field trip to the Cobb Youth Museum on Friday, Oct. 30th.  We will eat when we return at our regular time.***Please wear class t-shirts!

*RED RIBBON WEEK...Students will have daily activities posted in their agenda.

Fun Run Info

Dear Parents,

Thank you for a great start off to our Boosterthon fundraiser!  The pledges that have come in are raising the class averages, and the classes are enjoying their prizes.  The Boosterthon guys are giving great character education lessons every day, and inspiring the children to work as a team.  If you have not made a pledge towards your child's class yet, please sign on to funrun.com this weekend, enter your child's personal code, and make a pledge.  Every donation, no matter the amount, raises the class average.  You can easily check your team's average on the pledge page, and can also see how many states the class and school have received pledges from.  It' s a great way to learn geography, while supporting a good cause!

Please note the Fun Run times for Thursday...9:00 is 2nd/3rd grade, 10:10 is 4th/5th grade, and 11:20 is K/1st grade.  We encourage all parents to attend this uplifting event!

Thank you for helping the kids at Bullard succeed by donating to improve technology and science programs!

Just a few reminders...

Reading-We are discussing ways we can become a better reader (making connections, using background knowledge, etc....).  Please be sure your child is reading at least 20 minutes daily!

Writing-Continue to work on personal narratives.  Next week will will start a short unit on poetry.  Students will be creating their own poems, and we will be inviting you to come to our class in November to share them with you!

Math-Continue our unit on Multiplication.  You can have your child review chapter 8 (this week).  Next week we will work on chapter 9.

Grammar-This week GUMS pages 39-42 on action and helping verbs.  Next week we will continue with verb tenses and linking verbs.

SS-Started our unit on Explorers.  They will be covered in chapters 3 and 4.  We will be focusing on six explorers in our unit.  Students will be given the names and lessons to focus on this week.

Science-Students began chapter 5, Force and Motion.

Health-Continue chapter 4 on  nutrition.

Parents thank you in advance for your support of Boosterthon!  Please watch the video that your child brought home, and sign on now to start pledging.  If you had difficulty signing on earlier today, that problem has been fixed.   The Fun Run is next Thursday, October 22, and all parents are invited!  The times are:  9:00 4th and 5th grade, 10:10 2nd and 3rd grade, and 11:20 K and 1st grade.  Classes are working as teams towards prizes, and Boosterthon money will be used to enhance technology and provide science programs for every child at Bullard!                                            Pledges are due October 29, and checks can be made to Bullard PTSA.  Please visit the PTSA website for more information.  bullard.ptsamail.com

• The Fall Festival committee is asking for each classroom to provide at least TWO items for the Cake Walk. Items would include: cakes, cupcakes, pies, etc. They are also asking for 2-liter bottles of soda, lemonade, and punch to include in a Drink Walk. It would be great if you could get at least two dessert items plus a couple 2 liters. Those donations should be brought to the Conference Room on Friday, October 2, either by the child or their parent.

 

Reading/Language Arts-We'll have a Grammar quiz on Tuesday, 9/29, over our unit. It will include subjects, predicates, types of sentences, fragments and run-ons. We've reviewed in class and students have their review sheet. Also we're introducing personal narratives in writing.

 

Math- We're beginning Chapter 7 on multiplication patterns, estimating products and multiplying 2-digit numbers. Please be sure to review those multiplication facts!

 

Science-We're finishing up Chapter 3 on the water cycle and weather. Our test will be next Wednesday, October 10th. Students will recieve a study guide on Wednesday, 9/30.

 

Social Studies-We're continuing with Chapter 2 on Early Native Americans. The chapter test will be Monday, Oct. 12th. Students will recieve a study guide on Oct. 5th.

*Centers:  Students will focus on monitoring comprehension using non-fiction text. 

*Math:  Please have your child review lessons 5.1 and 8.2.  Our week will be spent covering the properties of multiplication. Feel free to use the online text for any lesson. The login and password were sent home last week in agendas.

*SS:  Continue lessons 2 and 3 in chapter 2.  We will be discussing Native Americans of the NW coast and peoples of the SW. 

*Science: Students will continue their unit on weather.
