Snake Homework

What Do You Think?

This week's homework question requires no reasearch, it is an opinion question.  Would you like to have a snake as a pet?  What are advantages and disadvantages of having a snake as a pet (at least 5 of each)?

Challenge of the Week

Here's this week's challenge:

Here is a picture of a snake can live in the high mountains of the Arctic Circle.

Which species of snake is it? How did you locate your answer?

Quote Falls

Some classes learned and practiced quote falls this week.  Here are two online links to continue your thinking with Quote Falls. Let me know if you try one and how you do! This is a great puzzle for all ages. Remember to use your strategies. For example, find all the one and two letter words first. See what letter combinations are possible using what you know about consonants and vowels.  Have fun working with words instead of numbers!

Challenge Question

This week's question came from one asked at the beginning of our unit as something we wanted to learn about snakes.  Does the size of a snake play a role in how long it lives?  While looking for sites to post for you to use, I didn't find one that gave an exact answer.  I did find a few sites that you can INFER the answer to the question.  Remember that means you can use the information gathered to come up with a conculsion on your own.

The Game of Set

Set_box_%20over25  I have taught a few of the grades how to play this fun game.

SET is a highly addictive, original game of visual perception; a fascinating challenge for either solitaire or competitive play.  To create a SET, a player must locate three cards in which each of the four features is either all the same on each card or all different on each card, when looked at individually. The four features are, symbol (oval, squiggle or diamond), color (red, purple or green), number (one, two or three) or shading (solid, striped or open).  Age is no advantage in this fast paced family game.  SET is great fun for the whole family because there is no previous knowledge required.
