What's Happening in March

Monday, March 3rd is Read All Day-Students may bring in a beach towel and some good books to read.

Tuesday, March 4th is an Early Release Day so students will be dismissed 2 hours early.

Friday, March 7th is the V.I.P Tea.  Parents of students with last names A-G will come from 8:15-8:50 and parents of students with last names H-Z will come from 9:00-9:35.  We are all looking forward to this fun day!

Friday, March 7th - Scholastic Book Orders are due.

Note:  Fire Safety continues in March- Please help your child remember to have their fire safety books at school.

February News

I enjoyed having the opportunity to talk with all of you at conferences!

V.I.P. Tea Project information was sent home on Thursday, January 31st.

Wednesday, February 6th, is an early release day.  Students will be dismissed two hours early.

Monday, February 18th, and Tuesday, February 19th, are student holidays. 

Field Trip Permission Form and Payment is due by Friday, February 22nd.

Important Notes for January

Monday, January 21st is a school holiday.

Conferences will be held January 22-28.  Please return your confernce slips as soon as possible.

Please continue to check and sign your child's agenda each night. 

Be sure to ask your child if they have any school supply needs.   Many students have run out of pencils, paper, etc.

Please send in a note with your child for any transportation changes

December News

We are busy wrapping things up for the second nine week period.  We are learning about:

Grammar:  Capitalization (Test on Friday, December 10th)

Writing:  Response to Literature Due on Friday, December 21st

Reading:  Finishing our unit on Folklore

Math:  Geometry (Test on Thursday, December 13th)

Social Studies:  The Thirteen Colonies

Science:  Light and Sound

Our holiday celebration will be on Wednesday, December 19th from 12:30-1:20.  I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the winter break!

Weeks of November 12th and November 19th

Here is what we are learning:

Spelling:  Unit 12 (Spelling Test on Friday and Spelling Activities due on Friday)

Grammar:  Capitalization

Reading:  We will be finishing up our study of tall tales and moving on to folk tales.

Writing:  We will continue to focus on responses to literature.  We have been learning about book reviews, book talks, letters to authors, summaries, etc.

Math:  We are moving on to geometry.

Science:  We are finishing up our study of force/motion and simple machines.

Weeks of October 22nd and October 29th

Here is what we will be learning:

Reading:  Traditional literature (Fables, Folktales, and Tall Tales) We have really been enjoying reading all kinds of traditional literature.  (The students especially enjoyed the fables!) 

Writing:  We have written an original fable.  We are going to begin learning how to write a response to literature. 

Math:  We are continuing to focus on multiplying larger numbers using the partial product and regrouping methods.  We will begin dividing by 2 digit numbers. 

Science:  We are learning about force and motion. 

Reminders and Notes:

  • Don't forget to make sure your child reads each night. 
  • Make sure your child knows their multiplication facts.  This is particularly important now that we are moving into two-digit division.

Week of October 15-19

Here is what we are learning:

Reading:  Traditional literature (Fables, Tall Tales, and Folk tales)

Writing:  We will be working on learning how to write a response to literature.

Spelling: Unit 9 Irregular Verbs

Math:  Using partial products to solve 2 and 3 digit multiplication

Science:  Beginning our unit on Force and Motion

Don't forget Wednesday is an early release day.

October 8-12

What are we learning?

Reading:  poetry, (personification, similes, metaphors, and onomatopoeia)

Spelling:  Compound words

Writing:  narrative writing, how to write a good ending for our narrative

Math: long division and review for our post test this Friday  **Math post test this Friday, October 12th.  Study guide will come home on Monday, October 8th.  Please review every night.

Week of October 1-5

Here's what we will be learning this week:

Sitton Spelling:  Unit 7, Spelling Skill is multi-meaning words, Test on Friday, 2 Spelling Activities Due Friday.

Language Arts:  simple/compound sentences, declarative/imperative sentences

Writing:  Drafting our narratives, using proofreading marks, writing good endings.

Reading:  Poetry (rhyme, rhythm, repetition, stanza, flow, meter, personification, simile, metaphor, ...)

Math:  2-digit and 3-digit multiplication

Social Studies:  Famous explorers, their motivations and obstacles.

Don't forget...

Map in a Month posters are due Tuesday, October 2nd.  We will be sharing these in class.

Week of September 24-28

Here's what we will be working on this week:

Spelling:  Unit 6, Spelling Skill is adding suffixes, Test on Friday, 2 Spelling Activities Due Friday

Language Arts:  simple/compound sentences

Writing:  Engaging beginnings, sensory details and concrete language, conflict resolution

Reading:  Poetry (fluency, vocabulary, conventions, comprehension)

Math:  Multiplication (Encourage your child to continue to study their multiplication facts at home.)

Science:  Weather (instruments, precipitation)  We will be completing our study guide in class and we will have a test on Friday.

Social Studies:  Map in a Month due October 2nd.

Picture Day is Tuesday, September 25th.  Order forms have already been sent home.  Send in picture money on Tuesday.
