Dear Parents,
Welcome to Bullard Elementary School! We are looking forward to a wonderful year together. There are several things that we would like for you to know about getting the kindergarten year off to a great start.
First of all, a large book-bag is needed for each student in order for him/her to transport notes, important papers, library books, and jackets. The small ones do not hold all the “stuff”.
Please pack an emergency change of clothes in a large baggy. It will be kept in the book-bag unless needed. Also send in a large beach towel (no blankets please). We will have a rest and read time every day for the first half of the year.
Please label book-bags, lunch boxes, and jackets with child’s name.
The daily folder is so important! We will send all work, correspondence, newsletters, and school information through the folder. You will send notes, signed papers, and lunch or field trip payments through the folder. We do not search book-bags for money or papers, so please encourage your child to be responsible to bring the folder each day. Don’t forget to check the folder daily for important information and to see what your child has done in school. This is a good time to review and reinforce skills learned that day.
I will update my blog at the beginning of each unit of study and post all important information. Please check this often. You can go to the Bullard site. Look under faculty and click on my name. We also send a monthly schedule indicating the specials that your child will attend each day. Please have your child wear athletic shoes on physical education days.
If there is a change in the way your child normally goes home, we need a written note of this change. I cannot accept transportation changes through e mail. In case of an emergency, contact the office, and they will notify your child of the change.
Registering for the After School Program (ASP) is a good idea in the event of an emergency, even if you do not plan to use it. They can only supervise children who are registered with the program.
In the event that your child needs early check out, please check in at the office and they will call for your child. Teachers cannot release children from the classroom without office notification. Also, if check out is at the end of the day, please come before 1:30 to avoid disruption of dismissal procedures. These regulations serve to maintain the safest environment for your child.
Also, if there is any change in student information, such as phone, address, custody etc. Please notify the teacher, office, and After School Program (if applicable).
We strongly encourage weekly ($8.00) or monthly ($32) payments towards your child’s lunch account on Mondays. Kindergarten children have difficulty keeping up with money, and prepaid lunches remedy this situation. At the end of the year, any money remaining in an account will be refunded or applied to the next school year. Checks should be made out to Bullard Elementary. Please write your child’s name on the check and K-Friedrich if the last name is different from the parent’s name and indicate what the check is for, i.e. John Doe/lunch. We will send the money to the cafeteria to be deposited in your child’s lunch account. If your child brings a lunch from home and purchases a drink/milk, the cost is $.50. Adult and guest lunches are $2.50. We welcome you to join us for lunch. However, we request that you wait until the second or third week of school until the children learn the lunch routine. Please check in at the office, get your nametag, and meet us outside the lunchroom. Your child may choose one friend to eat on the stage with them. Please remember that our instructional day continues at the end of lunch, so we will say our “goodbyes” at the end of the lunch period.
The school will provide envelopes for any money collected (field trips, Performing Arts, Pictures, etc.). Separate checks should be written for separate purchases or donations, as the money goes into different accounts.
All medications will be kept in the school clinic to be administered by our school nurse. Medications, in the original container, must be brought into the clinic by the parent. Parents will fill out a medical form indicating dosage/time. The clinic will call for the child when medication needs to be administered.
The school day begins promptly at 7:50 AM and ends at 2:20 PM. Children may enter the classroom at 7:15.
Absences are documented as excused or unexcused. Absences for illness are excused if a written excuse is sent in by the parent following the absence. If you have made a doctor’s visit it is helpful to have an excuse written from the doctor’s office.
We will have a snack time every afternoon. Healthy snacks are encouraged. If possible, please do not send pudding, jell-o or fruit cups. These items are often very messy. We are trying to preserve our carpets.
Thank you for your support and cooperation with the policies and procedures of Kindergarten. At Bullard, the safety and the education of your child is our priority. We look forward to a very successful year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Friedrich
