Today the children were hard at work! We finalized our house hunting and bought a car! Also, the children learned how to write a check. Wow, what a busy day. I am including a web site with some fun activities. Leave me something new you learned:)
Guiding Questions
Here are the guiding questions to get you thinking about your position statement. Please remember, you are going to share a 3-5 minute speech answering the question, "Are sharks as dangerous as we think they are?" I will stop the clock at five minutes, so be concise. I'm looking forward to your presentations!
1. Do sharks hunt people?
2. What do sharks prefer to eat?
3. Why are sharks an important part of the ecosystem?
4. What threats exist to shark populations, and what is being done to help prevent shark populations from declining?
Please note: These are guiding questions ONLY. You do not necessarily have to answer them in your speech directly. They are a starting point. You should have many other questions to think about as you formulate an opinion.

Time Magazine has a fascinating article entitled Summer of the Shark. Before reading this article, analyze the photograph of the Great White Shark on the front of the article. What is going through his mind? What do you think is going through a shark's mind when he attacks a human?
Fifth Grade Builds An Aquarium
Fifth grade was hard at work today completing our first test toward dissection, as well as, researching the characteristics of a shark's tooth and how this effects diet. For homework the students are to create a plant life or sea life located on the bottom of the ocean. I am including sites to aid in their creativity. The students have one week to complete the assignment:)
Tic-Tac-Taxes
Today in Target the students learned to distinguish among federal, state, and local taxes and the goods and services they support. Also, they learned how to how to Identify three basic types of taxes (income, sales, and property) and describe the purposes of each. Each child then calculated the percentage of taxes removed from their gross pay to determine their net. The website below is filled with information on all we explored!
