Weekly Overview

Week of January 30-February 3

 

We will be learning about Fire Safety.  On Wednesday, February 1st and Wednesday, February 15th a fireman will visit our classroom and teach a lesson.  On Wednesday, February 8th we will be going on a field trip to the Fire Safety Village.  If you have not already done so, please return the field trip permission form. 

What are we learning?

Language Arts:  We will be working on Sort 19.

In grammar, we will be learning to compare with adverbs and to understand and use negatives (pgs. 77-80 in the grammar book).

Math: We will be learning how to add fractions with the same denominator and how to subtract like fractions.  We will also be learning how to add and subtract mixed numbers.   (Chapter 15)

 

Science: We will continue our unit on Sound and Light and will have a test on Wednesday, February 1st.

Social Studies: We will continue our unit on the American Revolution (Chapter 8) . 

What about homework?All homework assignments should be written in the agenda daily. Read 20 minutes each night. Spelling words will come home on Mondays. Study your spelling words each night. Your spelling tests are on Fridays. Math homework will be assigned in class and written in the agenda. Agendas should be signed every night.

Math: We will learning how to read and write fractions, how to solve problems using the "make a picture" strategy, how to find equivalent fractions, how to read and write mixed numbers, and how to express fractions greater than one as a mixed number.

Science: We will continue our unit on Sound and Light.
