February is going to be a very busy month!

                                       Groundhog

Heart_animatedValentines Day is also nearing and I will be sending a class list for Valentine cards home this week. We will exchange cards on Tuesday, February 14th. Please have your child decorate a box to use as a mailbox. The box should have a slot large enough to receive cards that might have candy included. Also, your child's name should be clearly written on the box. There should be a way to open the box as the children will have the opportunity to read their cards in school.  Please have the children write the names of their classmates, and their own names legibly.  You may use shoebox, cereal box or sturdy gift boxes. Cover the box with foil, wrapping paper, or any other material. The children may decorate their box any way they desire.  Please make sure your child has a Valentine for each student in the class. We have 29 students in our class.

 MATH

We will be learning about decimals over the next couple of weeks!! This unit includes place value of decimals and adding/subtracting decimals. Please encourage your child to practice his/her multiplication facts each week and review concepts that we have covered in class on a daily basis.

**Our holiday party will be this Wednesday, December 21st, from 10:30-11:30. The children will be participating in a calendar exchange during the party. Please have your child bring in a wrapped 2012 calendar to exchange with another child at the party. (They have some really cute ones at Micheal's for only a dollar!!) The boys will exchange with a boy and the girls will exchange with a girl. (Example: animals, sports, popular books and movie characters that are kid friendly, etc.) Please feel free to join us for the holiday party, if you can!! Mrs. Davidson sent an email with details about what we will need for the holiday party. Please be sure to send in your donated items for the holiday party as soon as possible, so we can make sure we have everything we will need for the holiday activities.

Storyteller animated Writing EQ: How can I use my understanding of what I read to respond to the literature?

The students are learning how to write a response to literature.  The class will continue to learn how to write a summary about a story, (which is a component of writing a response to literature.) The children will learn how to write a judgment they then can include in their response to literature.  This will be accomplished using supporting evidence from the text, looking at the writing of other authors, and your child’s own personal background knowledge (connections.) We will also finish publishing our favorite holiday stories.

They will also be expected to explain what happens to the speed or direction of an object when a greater force than the initial one is applied. In addition, they will demonstrate the effect of a gravitational force on the motion of an object.
