Hi! My name is Christy Porteous, and I am very excited to have your child in my class this year! This will be my seventh year teaching in Cobb County, and I have experience in kindergarten through second grade. I have earned a Masters degree from Kennesaw State Universityin Early Childhood Education, and I am currently working on a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Instruction at Northwestern State University. I have been married for eight years to my wonderful husband Daniel, and we have a beautiful three-year-old daughter named Savannah. We enjoy traveling and scuba diving (well, at least before we had SavannahJ).

First grade is a time where your child will grow and blossom.  Your child will make great strides in reading and writing.   Please stay involved this year in your child’s education.  I will send home class newsletters detailing what is happening in our classroom.  Also, we will have a class website that will include class news, curriculum activities, and links to resources used in the classroom.

I am always available to speak with you.  You can contact me by writing a note and placing it in your child’s folder, e-mailing me, or leaving a message at the school. 

I look forward to getting to know each of you, and we are going to have a wonderful school year!

2 boxes pre-sharpened #2 pencils

1 box of Crayola colored pencils

1 large pink eraser

1 Mead Primary Composition Notebook (can be found at Staples or Office Max)

4 small Elmer’s glue sticks

1 pair of Fiskar scissors

1 box of tissues

1 box gallon slide Ziploc bags (boys only)

1 box quart Ziploc bags (girls only)

1 bottle of antibacterial hand soap (boys only)

1 bottle of waterless hand sanitizer (girls only)

1 box of baby wipes
