Hi! My name is Christy Porteous, and I am very excited to have your child in my class this year! This will be my eighth year teaching in CobbCounty, and I have experience in kindergarten through second grade. I have earned a Masters degree from Kennesaw State University in Early Childhood Education, and I just earned a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Instruction with a Concentration in Technology at Northwestern State University. I have been married for nine years to my wonderful husband Daniel, and we have two beautiful daughters, Savannah(4) and Danielle (6 months). We enjoy traveling and scuba diving (well, at least before we had the girls).

First grade is a time where your child will grow and blossom. Your child will make great strides in reading and writing. Please stay involved this year in your child’s education. I will send home class newsletters detailing what is happening in our classroom. Also, we will have a class blog that will include class news, curriculum activities, and links to resources used in the classroom.

I am always available to speak with you. You can contact me by writing a note and placing it in your child’s folder, e-mailing me, or leaving a message at the school.

I look forward to getting to know each of you, and we are going to have a wonderful school year!
