News and Notes

Parents,

Currently our class is working on reading and writing informational text.  Students are using their knowledge of expository features and gathering information to write about a topic they chose.  Students are writing a five paragraph piece including strong topic sentences, supporting details, and transition words.  In Math, students will focus on reading math story problems, creating graphs and interpreting data.  Our unit of study in Science is Georgia habitats.  Students will learn about these habitats and the plant and animal life within each region.

We will be post testing the current math unit, Fractions/Decimals/Measurement this Friday, March 7.

A reminder our class is going on a field trip next Friday, March 14 to New Echota.  We will depart at 9:00AM.  If any parent is interested in chaperoning, please let me know.

Thanks very much for your support!

Congratulations....

Congratulations to all the students that participated in the Bullard Writing Fair and Science Fair.  I am very proud of your efforts and enthusiasm to share your talents with others.  It was wonderful to read your stories and see the incredible science experiments.  Way to go STARS!!!

Thank you to all the parents for your support and encouragement.

Science Experiments...

Parents and Students,

This is a reminder that the science experiments are due tomorrow morning.  We will share experiments in class tomorrow.  For interested students, all experiments will be entered into the Bullard Science Fair on Friday.

I am looking forward to seeing you awesome work and scientific findings!

Celebration!

Dear Parents,

This letter is to inform you of our GREEN STAR CELEBRATION Thursday, February 14 .  The students have earned over 50 compliments throughout the year, and they have decided to celebrate with a pizza party.  We will be eating pizza and having soft drinks next Thursday for lunch.  I am asking each student to bring in $2 to cover the costs.  I will also provide ice cream afterwards.  We will begin this celebration during our regularly scheduled lunch time 11:35.  To meet

Cobb

County

guidelines, all students are asked to bring their lunch or purchase from the cafeteria.  Since lunch will be provided, I am asking the students to bring in a sack with a side item like chips, fruit, etc.  That way when we pass through the cafeteria line, we are following guidelines.  Students are not allowed to pass through with nothing in their hand; if they do they will be asked to purchase a lunch from the cafeteria.  I think bringing a sack with a side item will be the easiest.  That way, they can also purchase a milk or juice at that time.

I appreciate your support.  I am very proud of the students’ accomplishments; they certainly deserve this special celebration!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks again,

Adam Sage

Parent Newsletter

Dear Parents,

This week we are back to our regular schedule starting Tuesday as conference week is over today.  Thank you for coming in to meet and discuss your child's progress.  I appreciate the time you took out of your day to come to the meeting.

Our class will be focusing on EXPOSITORY (non-fiction) text this week.  Students will be identifying the conventions we use to help use negotiate this genre.  Students will also be reading expository text and creating a book that defines and illustrates all the expository conventions discussed in class.

In Writing, students are finishing up their second personal narratives, and we will be moving to INFORMATIONAL text very soon.

In Math, we are continuing our study of fractions.  Students will be comparing, ordering, reducing, adding, and subtracting fractions.  All students have a fraction kit of their own to use as manipulatives in their binder.

Science is our unit of study in the content area.  We will be focusing on HEAT and discuss ways heat travels....conduction, radiation, and convection.
